ATOM BOMBS FOR WEST EUROPE
PROPOSAL BY U.S. SENATOR ; WASHINGTON, March 12. ; Senator Ralph Flanders (Republican, Vermont) to-day urged that atomic bombs be stored in strategic areas of Western Europe for use only as “weapons of retaliation.” Senator Flanders told the Senate that an arrangement should, be made with the North Atlantic Treaty Powers permitting atomic bombs, aeroplanes capable of delivering them, and trained crews to be stationed if widely dispersed strategic points. These arrangements would “put teet in a resolution he introduced last June urging that Congress should formally declare that the United States would not use the atomic bomb unless It was SSt used against the United States or its allies.
