PEASANTS FIGHT POLICE
EVICTION FROM SEIZED LAND
LONDON, March 11
Reuter’s Palermo correspondent says that 41 persons were injured in a bloody hand-to-hand battle yesterday between 500 Sicilian peasants who had seized land and 100 armed police. Gunfire and hand grenades wounded at least five police, and another 2o were injured by Hying sticks and 'stones. „ . , The police used their rifles as clubs to beat off the peasants. Peasants clashed with policemen again to-day. Eleven policemen and four peasants were injured in hand-to-hand fighting which broke out after the had occupied land. Four peasants, were* arrested.
