TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” Mar. 13, 1925). Re-tarring of Footpaths—The footpaths which were cut up to allow of the laying of the new underground telephone cable are now being tarred and sanded,, and while the work is a necessary undertaking, it is causing considerable inconvenience to shopkeepers, whose carpets and linoleum are suffering because of the particles, which, brought into the shops on the hoots of the customers, adhere tenaciously to the floor covering. In order to save shopkeepers as much trouble as possible, a portion of East Street will be tarred and sanded oh Saturday afternoon.
