RESEARCH WITH SUBMARINES
REPORTED ADVANCES IN BRITAIN LONDON,- March 10. “British naval construction, scientists, and under-water experts believe they are on the way to perfecting the greatest submarine the world has ever known,” says the naval correspondent of the “Daily Herald.” “Their researches and experiments are so well advanced that Britain’s defence chiefs, although they realise the paramount importance of under-water warfare in any future conflict, have decided against building any more of the present type of submarines. “Britain’s experts are aiming at a super submarine, which is faster under and on the sea, has tlie habitability and range for record endurance submerged, can battle under water with any enemy submarines, has new weapons of detection and destruction, and is faster than anything yet known. “Already the Admiralty has been experimenting with submarine engines using hydrogen peroxide as fuel, on which it- is hoped to achieve underwater speeds of 25 knots.”
