FOUR RAILWAYMEN HURT

CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO TRAINS (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 3. Four railwaymen working in the Caversham tunnel were injured to-day when they were caught between two passing trains and two of them were admitted to hospital. Those admitted to hospital were: Sidney Edward Harris, head injuries and shock. Leslie McPherson, fractured left leg and suspected fractured ribs. The other two men injured were James Pattison, who suffered abrasions and injury to his right arm, and Kelvin McNally, who suffered a slight ankle injury and shock. The accident occurred about 8.40 a.m. Six men were spiking rails in the tunnel on the down line when the express for Invercargill passed through. They stepped aside on to the up line, but in the dense smoke and noise did not notice a shunting train from Burnside enter the tunnel on the other line. Two of the men stepped between the trains and were knocked down, one of the others was struck' on the shoulder and fell, and he in - turn knocked the fourth man over.
