WANGANELLA HITS WHALE
JARS WHOLE SHIP (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 3. The Wanganella struck and killed a whale in the Tasman Sea on New Year’s Day. The impact jarred the whole ship, attracting crowds of passengers to the rails. The ship immediately put about and, as it circled, passed through a school of about 50 small whales. The Wanganella was about 120 miles west of Farewell Spit. A Wellington Harbour Board diver to-day confirmed that no damage was done to the ship.
