WATER PIPES TAX
MR APPLETON’S CRITICISM
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 11. “The principle is wrong,” said the Mayor of Wellington (Mr W. Appleton) to-day, in referring to the question of sales tax amounting to £130,000 upon steel pipes for Wellington’s new water supply. “If the pipes which are required for industrial purposes are exempted from tax, there is greater reason to exempt those which are necessary to the public health,”’ he said.
