WATERFRONT CONTROL
UNION WAITS ON MINISTER ) ( p.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 24. When asked to comment on a statement published yesterday which appeared to convey the impression that he was negotiating with the national executive of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union about the terms of settlement of the waterfront dispute, the Minister of Labour (the Hon. A. McLagan) said this evening that he was not, and had not been negotiating with the waterside workers’ national executive on that or any bther question. The executive had met him and had expressed the union’s desire for a resumption of meetings of the Waterfront Industry Authority, said Mr McLagan. He had told the union that ho would convey their request to the Government and would advise them of the Government’s reply.
