MINE WORKERS STRIKE
PIT WINDERS DECIDE TO RESUM E ■LONDON, Aug. 23. The colliery winders to-night called off their strike, and work will be resumed to morrow. At least 70.000 coalminers in Yorkshire and Lancashire were idle for the second consecutive day to-day because of tlie strike by COO nit cage operators. Before to-night’s announcement that the strike had been called off, National Coal Board officials claimed that it had partially collapsed in the Wigan area of Lancashire, where all hut one colliery worked to-day. The winders went on strike against the advice of their union officials to enforce their demand . for higher wages.
