Nearly 24 Hours in Water
LONDON, August 24
Philip Mickman, an 18-year : old Yorkshire schoolboy, to-day swam the English Channel from the French coast. Mickman landed at Kingsdown, near Deal, this morning, 23 hours 13 minutes after entering the water at Cap Gris Nez.
Mickman is the youngest swim mer ever to conquer the English Channel. He succeeded at his third attempt. ,
Mickman’s 45-year-old trainer, H. Temme, has himself crossed the Channel both ways.
The Channel has been qonquered 28 times since Captain ..Webb first swam it in 1575
