BRITAIN’S ARMED FORCES
TOTAL OF 7(>9,900 PERSONS i LONDON, Aug. 24. - Britain had 7(59,000 persons in its armed forces, said the Ministry of Defence to-day. This figure included 4015,000 persons in the Army, 219,900 in the Air Force and 144,000 in the Navy. In addition, the auxiliary and territorial forces numbered 939,000. The Ministry’s statement added that 239,800 civilians .were employed by the War Office, the Air Ministry, the Ministry of Supply and the Ministry of Defence. The “Daily Telegraph” says that the total strength of Britain’s armed forces on July 1 was 15,100 fewer than on April 1. The total strength of the three services included women’s units.
