“MISS NEW ZEALAND”
VISIT TO COVENTRY (Rec. 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, August 24. “Miss. New Zealand” (Miss Mary Woodward) attended a civic reception at Coventry given by the Mayor, Aiderman V. A. Hammond, during which she handed a New Zealand food parcel io 74-year-old Mrs Lizzie Jelfs, whom the Mayor said he had picked out as a “typical” Coventry citizen. “Miss New Zealand” later inspected the cathedral ruins and was shown plans for the city’s reconstruction. She visited a motor-car factory and placed in one crate destined for New Zealand a letter of greeting to the Mayor of Wellington from the Mayor of Coventry. i ;
