WAR MEMORIAL
Tinwald Hall Project NEARLY HALF SUM RAISED Though there has been some apathy on the part of the public in supporting projects designed to augment the funds, already well on toward half the amount required lias been raised for the Tinwald War Memorial Hall. This was reported at a meeting of the com-’ mittee, presided over, by Mr J. W. Lowery, last evening. When the first public meeting was held two years ago, it was decided that the target should be £2OOO, which will carry a £ for £ subsidy from the Government. The actual raised since is £SGS, while a further £2OO is held by the Tinwald Town Board for the hall fund. Another organisation lias a credit of over £IOO which, it is anticipated, will be devoted to the project. The treasurer, Mr J. B. Nicoll, reported to last evening’s meeting that, since the previous meeting four months ago, the sum of £54 odd had been raised for the fund, mainly through social activities.
Members, however, expressed concern at the apathy shown by residents toward projects in aid of the fund, and several instances were mentioned of activities falling through because of lack of practical aid. It was decided to call a public meeting on September 5 to receive the committee’s report and annual statement of accounts, also to elect officers. With a view to adding to the fund, it was decided to suggest that a gymkhana be held at the Tinwald Domain during the summer, and that a further canvass of the district be made for donations.
