ANCIENT COINS FOUND

EXCAVATIONS UNDER ST, PETER’S s ROME, Aug. 20. Nearly 2000 ancient gold, silver and bronze coins have been found during excavations under the Basilica at'St. Peter’s, including medieval coins from pilgrims from nearly every country in Europe. The discovery of the coins shows that as far back as the ninth century pilgrims came io Romo from all over the known world to play and leave alms. A full account of the coins will be given in' a book on the excavations which is being prepared for Holy Year.
