SAVAGE CLUB
RAID TO WAIMA7E Upwards of 40 members of the Ashburton Savage Club raided the hapu of the Waimate Club at the week-end. The visitors were most hospitably entertained, Waimate Savages doing their utmost to make the stay a most pleasant one. The raiding party was headed by Great Chief H. G. Lowry, who was presented by Great Chief G. Beam with the badge of the Waimate Club as a memento of the occasion. Yesterday the visitors were taken for a drive round the Waimate district. The korero which was provided by the raiding party, comprised vocal and instrumental items and sketches. Vocal solos were sung by Warriors K. Macfarlane and L. Smith and Savages S. Wright and R. Milligan. Savage A. Morriss gave a piano-accordion 1 item, Savage Milligan cornet solos, and Great Chief Lowry and Savage Milligan flugel horn and cornet duets. Several sketches were presented, the participants being Ex-Great Chiefs A. M. McLennan and R. Jeffs, Warriors D. Gibson, Macfarlane, J. Weeks, and Savage Milligan. Savage Don Smith, of Waimate, acted as accompanist for the evening. The party returned home last evening.
