“DEVIL’S GRIPPE”
OUTBREAK IN AUSTRALIA (Rec. 11.40) SYDNEY, This Day. Bathurst doctors are treating Avhat may be the first Australian epidemic of a disease common in the United States and Northern Europe, knoAvn variously as “Devil’s Grippe,” “Bornholm Disease” and “epidemic diaphragmic pleurodynia.” _ : Some symptoms are similar to pneumonia. Over 00 cases have been treated in Bathurst and six 'at a migrant centre about six miles from the town.
Local doctors believe the disease is Availing. It is stated that so far the incidence is sporadic, and adolescents and young adults of both sexes have been victims. •It is suggested that the presence of large numbers of displaced persons from Northern Europe in the Bathurst area may he significant. ,
