WORKERS’ UNION ASKS FOR RECONSIDERATION
(N.Z.P. A.—Copyright) (Rec. 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, April IS. The 350,000-strong Union of Shop 1 Distributive and Allied Workers, at its annual conference at Blackpool to-day, accused Sir Stafford . Cripps of “a serious blunder” in tampering with food subsidies and asked for the Government’s immediate reconsideration of the Rudget proposals. The union’s assistant general secretary, Mr J, D. Hiscock, said that the Chancellor’s food subsidies decision had made things infinitely more difficult for the trade union movement. “We believe a big mistake has been made, tactically and strategically in the battle for recovery.”
