HARMONICA BANDS
RALLY AT ASHBURTON a Port Chalmers, Timaru and Ashburton Harmonica Bands combined this Aveek-end in a successful rally in Ashburton. The chief features Avere a street march to the Domain yesterday afternoon, and a varied display given on the Oval. Each band played a quickstep and the Ashburton Scottish Society’s Pipe Band assisted by giving a performance of its spectacular drum-major’s disP la y- - . The combined harmonica bands, conducted by Mr E. BurroAVS, rendered the hymn “Deep Harmony.” A Avelcotrie Avas extended by the Mayor (Mr E. C. Bathurst) and Mr A. Erdman, president of the NeAV Zealand Harmonica paftds’ Association, replied on behalf of the visitors. A packed audience greeted the bands at the Radiant Hall for a concert in the evening, though the financial returns Avere not startlingly great. Visiting bandsmen Avere unanimous in their appreciation of hospitality received, and ’ the whole rally is regarded as markedly successful.
