RUSSIAN’S TRIAL
ESPIONAGE ALLEGATION

Valentin Gubitchev, a Russian engineer formerly attached to the United Nations headquarters, said in the Federal Court to-day that ho did not want to be associated with the trial of Judith Coplon, a former Justice Department employee. Gubitchev and Coplon are charged jointly with conspiring to commit espionage. Gubitchev was in court today for the hearing to set the trial date. He again claimed diplomatic immunity. The judge set the date of the joint trial for May 2. Coplon is due to go on trial at Washington on April 25 on an additional indictment which docs not involve Gubitchev.
