JET PLANES IN SEVEN YEARS
FORECAST FOR TRANS-TASMAN (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 11. Within seven years jet airliners may be flying the Tasman under Tasman Empire Airways’ flag. If so, this line will be among the first of the large-scale operators in the world to use jet airliners. This information, which is authoritatively based, suggests that whether the jet aircraft will be land planes or flying-boats depends upon the development of an international airport in Auckland. Whiphever aircraft sents the greater facility for economical operation will dictate the company’s choice. When it is satisfied on this point it may proceed to order jet airliners now being developed in Britain.
Jet aircraft are regarded as the logical successors to the Solent flyingboats now on order, which will have a service life of about seven years.
