RECORD PRICE

MERINO WOOL BRINGS 84 ]d

Line of Six Bales of Hogget Fleece

(P.A.) TIMARU, This Day. The New Zealand record price cf 84 h d was obtained for six bales of Merino hogget fleece grown in the Lake Pukaki district in the Mackenzie Country, at this morning’s selling at the first Timaru wool sale this season. By lunch time 14,000 of the 30,000 bales catalogued had been sold.

The opening prices were fully firm on those at the Christchurch sale in December. Good-style crossbreds and three-quarter-breds were in keen demand by the Continent, and Bradford took several lots. Dominion mills sought high-country Merino wool, a New Zealand brokers’ firm paying the record price of 84Id. Halfbreds fetched up to 001 d and three-quarter-breds to 571 d. A full bench of buyers started quietJy, bidding within set limits, but later in the doming the sale became more animated. •
