RAILWAYMEN’S CLAIMS

TO BE REFERRED TO TRIBUNAL

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 10. Claims to be presented by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants 4o a special sitting of the Railways Tribunal beginning on January- 25 will be for a 33d an hour increase for labourers and 4d an hour for tradesmen, with proportionate claims for other employees not covered by these two groups. , . “It was always recognised that the matter would have to be dealt with by the Railways Tribunal,” said the assistant-general secretary of the society (Mr J. S. Berry) to-day. The claims now to he heard were made in 1947, but were adjourned sine die when the Government appointed the Wages and Anomalies Committee to investigate the position. Each of the three other railway employees’ organisations —the Railway Tradesmen’s Association, the Railway Officers’ Institute, and the Enginedrivers’, Firemen’s and Cleaners’ As-sociation-lias its original claim before the tribunal dating from April, 1947. The general ot the Railway Tradesmen’s Association (Mi T. F. Gebbie) said to-day that although no amended claim had yet been filed it was intended to do so within the next few days Mr A. R. Tarr, general secretary oi the Railway Officers’ Institute, indicated that his organisation would also file amended claims shortly.
