MONTHLY MEETING
WAIPIATA COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee was held in the Otago Hospital Board’s Office, Dunedin, on Tuesday, March 23, there being present Messrs E. Macdonald (chairman), J. Rodman, W. Bringans, J. W. Miller, T. A. Lowis, T. Golden, C. A. Campion, A. V. King and Dr. G. O. L. Demps'ter, representing the Department of Health. A motion of sympathy with Mr and Mrs W. Harvey, employed on the farm staff, in the loss of their daughter through an accident was passed.. The medical superintendent (Dr. A. Kidd) reported that during February, 15 patients had been admitted, nine were discharged, one had died and 117 were in the institution at the end of the month. He recommended as suitable for admission to the sanatorium two patients from Southland, one from South Canterbury, one from Waitaki and one from South Otago—a total of five, the secretary stating that three of these patients had applied for admission.
The secretary reported that on March 22 the Associated Boards had patients in the institution as follows: Southland 53, South Canterbury 33, Ashburton seven, Waitaki 16, South Otago six, Vincent seven, Maniototo one, a total of 123. Since the previout meeting nine patients from three hospital districts had been discharged and there was a waiting list of 16 patients from five districts for admission, four of whom had not yet been recommended by the medical superintendent.
The treasurer submitted for the information of members interim statements of the comm|ttee’s maintenance and capital estimates for the ensuing year, with the estimated and actual figures for the preceding year also shown. To meet the estimated deficit in the maintenance account it was resolved that the daily charge on the associated boards be increased to 8s 6d per patient, and that a capital levy of £7OSQ be made on the Associated Boards for capital works proposed to be undertaken during the year,
