U.S. CONSUL SHOT IN ONTARIO
SERIES OF ATTEMPTS ON LIFE OTTAWA, March 28. Two shots were tired at.the United States Consul, Mr John Bankhead, as he eased his motor-car into the driveway of his suburban home at Windsor, Ontario, to-night. Police searched the neighbourhood without finding the assailant. The Consul is known for his strict supervision of the border to prevent Communists from entering the :' iited States through Detroit, which is opposite Windsor on the United States Side of the Detroit River. He vau sent poisoned liquor through the post recently, and on another occasion received poisoned chocolates. Someone also sanded the petrol in his ca“ live days ago. A definite motive for the attempts on Mr Bankhead’s life has nt t been ascertained.
