Model Plane Club
The weekly meeting of the Ashburton Model Aeroplane Club was held a* the airport on Saturday. Condition's were ideal and several good flights, were registered the best for the day being lmin 32 2-ssec by H. Grahame’s Silver King. Safety at Sea “The standard of safety of shipping in New Zealand,” said the Minister of Marine (the Hon. F. Hackett) recently, “is second to none in the world.” He said an international convention for the safety of life at sea had been convened in London to begin on April 23. The Government had decided to send the chief surveyor of ships for the Marine Department (Mr E. Brown) and the deputy chief surveyor (Mr V. G. Boivin) to represent New Zealand. The New Zealand Shipowners’ Federation had arranged for the assistant marine superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company (Captain C. H. George) to represent it, and the scientific liaison officer in London (Dr. E. Marsden) would collaborate with the technical experts.—P.A.
