WINDY BUT WARM TO-DAY Though there w r as a strong wind •blowing at intervals, warm weather was again experienced at Ashburton this morning. Varied conditions were the order over the week-end. Steady rain set in on Satnurday night and continued until well on yesterday morning, a total of 47 points being registered. Winds approaching gale force were experienced later yesterday, but the day was the warmest since March 3, with 8.2 hours of sunshine. The maximum temperature during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-ddy was 80.2 degrees and the minimum 51, compared with 63.4 and 52.4 over the previous corresponding period. The earth temperature this morning was 57.5 degrees, exactly the same as at 9 a.m. yesterday. The barometer this morning registered 29.45 inches, against 29.11 yes* terday morning. SHOWERY CONDITIONS The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General situation: A ridge of high pressure lies to the north-east of the North 'lsland, and a deep depression is passing to the south of the South Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: North-west winds, strong at times in exposed positions; changing to fresh soutli-westerlies late to-mor-row; weather becoming overcast during to-morrow, with showers developing late in the day; temperatures warm. Outlook: Cold, showery conditions developing.
