PUBLIC HOLIDAYS ON MONDAYS

Move by Trade Unions ,5> STAGGERING OF ANNUAL LEAVE SOUGHT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 20. A move to have annual holidays staggered and all public holidays “Mondayised” will be made at the annual conference of the Federation of Labour and the Labour Party at Dunedin in April and May. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and the NeAV Zealand Railway Tradesmen’s Association will propose the staggering of holidays to the Federation of Labour on the ground that it would enable workers to make better use of existing travel facilities. This proposal will be supported at the party conference by the Hiitt Labour Representation Committee. The New Zealand Plumbers’ Union will ask that the Labour Day holiday he moved to a more suitable date, and that all provincial anniversaries be observed on Mondays. The Hutt Labour Representation Committee will ask that all statutory holidays apart from those at Christmas and New Year should be observed on Mondays.
