CLOTHING TRADE WORKERS
SUSPENSION ORDERS REVOKED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 25. The revocation of the Clothing Trade Labour Legislation Suspension Order, 1940, and the Clothing Trade Labour Legislation Suspension Order, 1940, No. 2, was announced last evening by the Minister of Labour (Mr A: McLagan). These orders, the Minister explained, obviated the necessity for two years’ apprenticeship, and also fixed a special rate of pay for female workers who entered the clothing, the shirt and dressmaking or millinery trades for the first time after reaching the age of 21. They were introduced during the war and were intended to facilitate the entry into the industry of women over 21 at a time when theijj? was an urgent need for increased production. Mr McLagan said that as a result of the revocation, the ordinary provisions of the several awards would apply to workers previously subject to the suspension orders.
