LICENSING LAW AMENDMENTS

Legislation This Session SEVERAL POSSIBLE BILLS r*' \ (P.A.) WELLINGTON/March 24. Legislation to give effect to recommendations of the Royal Commission on Licensing which reported to the Government in 1946 is to come before Parliament th’s year. The Attorney-Gen-eral (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) said in reply to an inquiry this evening that, although the work involved was extensive and complex, good progress had been made with the preparation of legislation. Mr Mason said the aim was to have the legislation ready in good time for Parliament to give it full consideration during the coming session. Consideration was being given to whether it would be feasible and more convenient to divide the subject -matter of the legislation into more than one measure, instead of having the whole of the legislation in one Bill. “The subject.matter is very extensive and in many ways the question is a, difficult one, but a, good deal of hard work has been done on it/’ said the Minister. “The prpearation of legislation is in active progress.”
