PIPE BAND LEAVES

CONTEST AT DUNEDIN Travelling by bus, the Ashburton Scottish Society’s Pipe Band left about 9.30 this morning for Dunedin, where they will compete in the B grade section of the Dominion championships. ’ Twenty-six players made the trip, with Drum-Major L. L. Aitken in charge. Accompanying the party also were the society’s chief, Mr W. Croy, and also the former chief Mr H. Sinclair; w'ho, though over 90 years of age, regularly attends the contests. The band will compete in the quickstep to-morrow and the street march on Saturday. On Sunday there will be a "drum-major’s display and the contest will conclude with selections on Monday. They are expected back in Ashburton on Tuesday night. A special train carrying\ North Island and some South Island bands passed through Ashburton about 9.30 this morning.
