STATE HOUSE TENANCIES

LOCAL ALLOCATION COMMITTEES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March '23. Committeees to allocate the tenancies ol Stale houses are to be set up in most cities and towns. The Minister temporarily in charge of the State Advances Corporation (Mr I*’. Hackett) said to-day that this was being done because of the success of experimental committees, including that at Palmerston North. Mr Hackett said lie was writing this week to various individuals asking them if they would serve on committees for this purpose. As soon #as he received the replies he would go ahead with the formation of committees. The committees would be composed of persons who were known to be interested in the welfare of the community generally. “I have made it a particular point that no organisations as such are represented on the committees, with the exception .of local bodies,” said Mr Hackett. <! I would like it clearly understood that the setting up of committees is in no way a reflection on the officers in the State. Advances Corporation. Those who in the past have been charged with the responsibility of grading applications and choosing therefrom the most deserving cases for State rental tenancies, will continue with this work in co-operation with the local committees. I hope that the job of the corporation officers will be somewhat lightened by the formation of the committees.”
