MIGRATION BY INDIANS

DOMINIONS' ATTITUDE CRITICISED

WASHNGTON, March 22

The attitude of other British Dominions toward Indians, particularly Indian immigrants, was warmly criticised to-night by Sir C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar, a former Premier of Travancore, who is making a lecture tour of the United States.

Sir Ramaswami Aiyar, who was interviewed by a panel of Washington journalists in the presence of a fashionable audience, complained that although India had attained independence as part of the British Commonwealth, other Dominions had failed to adopt the reciprocal attitude which might have been expected. 1-Ie particularly criticised South Africa and Australia, and said: “Indians are not welcome in many Dominions. South Africa does not want Indians. Australia is only lightly populated, and offers a splendid field for migration, but I have seen no enthusiastic response by Australia to the possibility of Indians migrating there. New Zealand is almost the same. Canada is only slightly better. “Indians would like to feel that if they are to be part of the British Commonwealth they will be accorded some reciprocity by the other Dominions.”
