ASHBURTON OFFICIALS ELECTED Mr A. Sharp had been appointed permanent organiser for the Ashburton and Sohvyn electorates since the last annual meeting, reported the chairman (Mr H. L. Ryan) to the annual meeting of the Ashburton Labour Representation Committee of the New Zealand Labour Party. He added that a new projector for showing educational films had been purchased. It was decided to take up again with the Ashburton Borough Council the matter of tire hazards in the Ashburton Borough. Mrs Ann Newlands and Messrs W. Freer, M.P., and J. Oliver addressed the meeting. Officers elected were:—President, Mr H, L. Ryan; vice-president, Mr G. Turton; secretary-treasurer, Mr G. Glassey; executive, Mesdames E. Lewis, Amos. Messrs H. Ayers, 1. Carrol, L. Colville, P. Jenkins’ F. NTyo and A. Pierce. 'lhe retiring president, and secretary, Mr J. H. Ward and Mr F. X. McDonnell, tvho did not seek reelection. were accorded a vote of thanks for their services over ihe past years. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late *Mr T. M Hutt, of Geraldine, who was recognised as one of the pioneers of the Labour movement in this district.
