MATCH ABANDONED JUNIORS PLAY IN RAIN The Bristol Clip match between Technical Old Boys, winners of the Ashburton County senior competition and High School, winners of the Timaril senior competition, to have been played at the Domain on Saturday was abandoned because of the rain.

The junior match between Tekau, winner of the Ashburton County junior competition, and the Alpine team from Timaru, was won by Alpine by 12 runs on the first innings. The match was ployed in the rain. Tekau batted first and made 65. J. O’Grady (21), A. Hansen (19) and W. Young (14) batted well, O’Grady being run out after playing some good shots. No other batsman reached double figures, and five of the side failed to score.

T. Fitzgerald was Alpine’s best bowler finishing up with the splendid average of six wickets fbr 10 runs. J. Fitzgerald took three for 21. Alpine made 77 for nine wickets when rain stopped play. They had nine men out for 65 runs, but R. KiU gour (10 not out) and Hope (eight not out) carried the side to victory. M. Hogan (12) and .1. Fitzgerald (13) were the 110111)10 figure scorers.

A Hansen, six for 22, was Tekau’s most successful trundler. S. Hamel took two for 36.

There were four Fitzgeralds in the Alpine team, including P. Fitzgerald, the well-known South Canterbury Rugby representative.
