COMMUNIST ATTACKS IN CHINA
SHANGHAI, March 21. China’s civil Avar spread to the enA*irons of Shanghai and Nanking today when sffiall detachments of Communist guerillas launched attacks on GoA'ernment strongpoints on the north bank of the Yangtze River. Pro-GoA r -' ernment dispatches reported fighting at Haihen and Nantung, 40 and 45 miles north-west of Shanghai, Lolio, 30 miles north of Nanking, and other centres on the other side of the Yangtze, following Avhat appears to be a concerted move to probe the strength of the Government defences along the A'ital Avaterwavs. ? At all points Go\ r ernment troops are reported to have the situation well in hand, although; reinforcements have been rushed from both Shanghai and Nanking.
