Taranaki Iron Sands i EXPERT COMING TO DOMINION jfP.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. It was announced from London this week that tests will probably be made on Taranaki iron .'sands by Mr Tudor Young,, formerly of Dunedin, who is to return to New Zealand to take up an a-p«-pointment as metallurgist at the Dominion Physical Laboratory.

It is understood that Mr Young is at present gathering information in Briain on methods of obtaining iron from iron sands.

A spokesman for the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research said to-day that Mi r Young’s appointment was not connected with Taranaki sands.

Mr Young had been away from New Zealand for about 25 years, in the course of which he has held various positions as chief chemist and metallurgist in British and Australian companies. He was in charge of the steel smelting plant at the Hillside Railway workshops in Australia for sis years. In 1936 he reurned to Britain to take a post with the Air Ministry, and was latterly deputy-senior inspecion officer for the south-western area.

Mr Young spent five and a half years in the United States where he was for a time seconded to the British Air Commission, being in charge of the Pittsburgh office. He is 47, married, with two children. He holds the Diploma of Metallurgy, and also lias been given certificates in- -various branches of metallurgy by the London City and Guilds, and by the University of Pittsburgh.
