VALUE OF PETROL COUPONS

ALTERATION CONSIDERED UNLIKELY (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 18. The chairman of the North Island Motor Union (Mr R. W. Roydhouse), speaking at the half-yearly meeting of the South Island Motor Union to-day, said that so far as he could ascertain there was not likely to be any alteration in the face value of petrol coupons during the coming winter. If any proposal for a reduction were put forward the union would fight the suggestion with all the power at its disposal. On the motion of Mr I. V. Wilson, of Invercargill, it was unanimously resolved that no action be taken in the matter of petrol rationing in the meantime.

A proposal that all applications for special allocations of petrol for business purposes should be dealt with by local advisory committees, as was the case during the war. was made by Mr C. W. Browne, president of the Automobile Association (South Canterbury) . The suggestion was unanimously adopted. The urgent need for an increase in the quota of British cars imported into New Zealand and the danger of having so many decrepit vehicles on the road were emphasised by Mr Browne, and it was decided to support the North Island Motor Union in asking the Government to increase the import licences for British cars immediately.
