The Crown Prosecutor at Palmerston North, Mr 11. R. Cooper, died last night. He was the senior member of one of the oldest legal firms in the city. His successor is Mr G. I. McGregor.

Mr W. H. Dalton has been appointed secretary of the Ashburton Electorate Committee of the New Zealand National Party. Mr Dalton succeeds Mr J. B. Nicoll, who relinquished the position on account of pressure of other business.

Dr. A. Bramwell Cook, M.D., M.R.C.P. (Lon.), F.R.C.S. (Edin.), F.R.A.C.S., who is a Salvation Army officer, will visit Ashburton at the week-end. Dr. Cook has spent. 15 years in India, where he has performed marvellous work. To-day his Emery Hospital is au imposing place with a staff of eight doctors and 50 to 60 nurses. He will assist in the services on Sunday at the Salvation Army Citadel.

A notable visitor to Ashburton this week-end will he the Rev. M. J. Eade, a New Zealand Baptist Missionary in India. Mr Eade was born in Feilding and before going to India was secretary and house master at the Feilding District High School, and he was also in the Government service in Wellington. Just before his return to New Zealand Mr Eade took over 1000 feet of Kodachrome film covering aspects of the work being done by the missionary society both in India and Pakistan and while on deputation work he is using this to give the public of New Zealand an opportunity of seeing the conditions which prevail in that great commonwealth since partition was enforced.
