MILD AND SUNNY TO-DAY

The weather in Ashburton to-day was pleasantly mild and sunny. There were 3.8 hours of sunshine yesterday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures for the period ended at 9 a.m. to-day were 67.0 and 53. S degrees, against 66.0 and 41.0 for the previous 24 hours.

The barometer this morning had dropped to 29.87 inches from 30.00 inches yesterday. The .earth temperature to-day was 59.4 and yesterday 57.0.

OUTLOOK FAIR

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:—

General situation: There is an anticyclone east of New Zealand and a low pressure trough is approaching the South Island from the west.

The forecast for the east coast of the South Isktnd from Blenheim to Oamaru to o p.m. to-morrow is as follows:

Moderate to fresh northerly winds, tending west to south-west to-morrow, rain in the ranges today, and a few showers near the coast early to-mor-row, otherwise fair, with cold night and moderate day temperatures. Outlook: Fair.
