FIJI BEATEN BY 46 RUNS SUCCESS OF OTAGO SPIN BOWLERS (P.A.) DUNEDIN. March 16. In spite of efforts of later batsmen to retrieve the position after a disastrous start, the Fijian tonring cricket team was dismissed for 196 in the second innings of its match against Otago at Carisbrook to-day, leaving the home aide the winners by 46 runs'. When- .play was resumed, the Fijians needed 243 runs for a win and had 31' runs for one wicket, but three wickets fell cheaply, including that of JI. J. Apted, who was bowled by McArley with the first ball he received. Seven wickets were down for 112 when Edward Cakoban joined bis captain. P. A. Snow, and this pair added 40 before Groves dismissed SnowE. Cakoban and K. Aria provided the liveliest batting of the innings in the last wicket stand, which added 29, Aria, bitting two sixes in scoring 14.
The Fijians were" never completely at home to the slow spin bowlers, and Groves and Smith each took three wickets. ■
