WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

FAITTTON MEETING “Of all the things you wear, the most important is your expression, and that costs nothing,” was the motto at the February meeting of the Fairton Women’s Institute.

The meeting opened with the singing of the ode, and the aspirations were read by all. A letter of cheer and flowers from the meeting were sent to Mrs J. Bennison, who is ill in hospital.

Nominations for the new committee were received. Members were informed that a telegram had been sent to Mrs Morton on the occasion of her 90tli birthday last week.

The nay competition programme for 1948 was fully discussed. It was decided to send Miss Oram as delegate to the conference in Wellington in August, and members decided to commence card parties to raise money for the delegate’s expenses. An amusing competition was won by Mrs Slade. Mrs E. Bryant and Miss Stevens judged the competitions, which result-ed:-—Best bloom, Mrs Trott 1, Mrs Slade 2, Mrs Willis 3; jar of flowers, Mrs Nutbrown 1, Mrs Trott 2, Mrs Slade 3; three pods of peas, Mrs Slade 1, Mrs Campbell 2, Miss R. Chappell 3; slice of Christmas cake, Mrs Chappell 1, Mrs Slade 2, Mrs Oram and Mrs Donnelly (equal) 3; oven cloth, Mrs Chappell 1, Mrs Donnelly 2. Miss Oram presided, and Miss R. Chappell was pianist. Tbe hostesses were Mesdames J. F. Mackay, FI. Slade and D. Robertson.
