State Houses Sought For Tinwald j * FINAL MEETING OF TOWN • BOARD A decision to request the State Housing Department to again consider the question of erecting State houses in Tinwald, was reached at the monthly meeting of the Tinwald Town Board last evening. About a year ago an application along these lines was made to the department without success. The Government Life Insurance Department advised that it was prepared to grant a loan of £3OOO to the board for a period, of 20 years at 3J per cent., repayment to be made in half-yearly instalments covering principal and interest. The purpose of the loan is street improvements, including kerbing, channelling and footpath construction. The board decided to accept the department’s offer subject to the loan poll being carried next Wednesday. Safeguarding Main Highway The Main Highways Board wrote expressing appreciation of the Town Board’s offer of co-operation in guiding future development in relation to the main highway by means of a proper planning scheme. At its last meeting the Main Highways Board wrote expressing concern at the ribbon development taking place along the main highway through Tinwald, and stating that a scheme was to be formulated for safeguarding all interested parties (motorists and citizens generally). The Town Board then expressed its readiness to co-op-erate in having a suitable scheme investigated. ' . The Town Board last evening also received advice from the Main Highways Board that an officer would be made available to assist in the preparation of such a scheme. Mr R.'Croy was appointed the dogregistrar for 1948. , - . The chairman (Mr H. B. Millicliamp) thanked members of the boaid for their support during the past term of office, and for the work they had carried out in the interests of the district.
