SHIP ON FIRE
CALL FOR HELP IN SOUTH CHINA SEA (Rec. 12.5) SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12. The Globe wireless reported that the Dutch ship Alpherat, which was on fire, had called for help in the South China Sea approximately 150 miles south-east of Hong Kong. The ship later said that it was proceeding west, and was in contact with the steamship Chama. The Alpherat reported that the fire broke out last night in number one hold. . In a dispatch from Manila the correspondent of the Associated Press said the ship reported that it was not in immediate danger, but asked vessels in the area to stand by. Records show that the Alperart, formerly the Wheaton Victory, is now operated by Van Nievelt Soudriaan and Company, of Rotterdam.
