BY-ELECTION AT GRAVESEND
CONSERVATIVE candidate LONDON, Nov. 12. A potato adorned with the Conservative Party colours was on the table when the Gravesend Conservative Association formally adopted Mr Frank Taylor a Gravesend engineer, as its official candidate in the coming byeleeiion. „ Although it. had been officially announced that no Liberal candidate would be nominated at Gravesend, tliere was a sharp split in the local Liberal camp on this issue. While the Gravesend Liberal Association issued a statement asking all Liberal supporters to exercise their own judgment in deciding between Labour and the Conservatives, another statement issued by a number of leading Gravesend Liberal supporters appealed to all Liberals to support Mr Taylor’s candidature. According to the “Daily Telegraph,” three Ministers of Cabinet rank and 14 junior Ministers have already been booked to speak in support of the Labour candidate, Sir Richard Acland.
