INAUGURATION OF SCHEME (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Making a prophecy that, not only would the Maori population he more than 600,000 in another 50 years, but also that the time was fast approaching when New Zealand would lie the centre of the Polynesian population, Sir Apirana Ngata dealt fully with the position of his people when inaugurating the campaign for a Maori community centre last night. ■ “If you have any doubts as to the accuracy of that statement, you have only to go to Auckland to see what is happening there even now,” he said. An audience of over 200, representative of every tribe in the Dominion, unanimously passed a motion to set the scheme going.
