N.Z. FARMERS IN BRITAIN

DEMAND FOR PRODUCE FROM DOMINION (Special Correspondent. —N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, July 24. “There is no doubt that English importers are waiting eagerly for the day when they will again have the right to a selection, and will be able to ask for New Zealand produce and get it. Everyone we have met has complimented us upon the way New Zealand has kept up the standard and quality of its produce, in spite of the war, and what few complaints we have heard have been on matters of detail, said Mr W. W. Mulholland, president of Federated Farmers of New Zealand who, with the vice-president ot the organisation, Mr W. N. Perry, has been visiting Britain and the Continent since early in April. - Mr Mullholland and Mr Perry will return to New Zealand on the Oran, which will sail from Liverpool at thp week-end. Mr Perry attended the Geneva trade talks as an unofficial Government observer, and then joined Mr Mulholland at Scheveningen, Holland; where they represented New Zealand at the annual conference of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers, Since then, they have toured many of the farming districts of England and Scotland, and have met representatives of British importers. and the shipping trade, and others interested in handling New Zealand products. They expressed the opinion that British farmers had done an “extraordinary good job” in bringing so much land back to normal cultivation after the severe winter and subsequent flooding. At present, prospects for hay and root crops looked encouraging, but there was no doubt that the grain harvested was “very patchy.” They had seen some extremely good crops, but side by side with them, there were others which would obviously be well below average. Generally speaking, beef cattle appeared to have recovered very well from the winter, but as a result of the long dry spell in the eastern countries after the floods, the condition of sheep flocks was uneven.
