FAREWELL GIFTS
PRESENTATION AT WILLOWBY Mr and Mrs R. Knox were the guests of honour at a complimentary social Held in the Willowby Hall on Saturday evening. Mr G. Chalmers presided over \a large attendance, which had gathered to bid them farewell and god speed on the eve of their retirement to Ashburton. ■ On behalf of the district residents Mr S. H. Lill presented them with two easy chairs and a sum of money. Messrs A. S. Hayman, R. J. Chapman and G. H. B. Lill spoke on the guests’ long and useful work in distinct and in church affairs. Mrs Knox was a member of the school committee for some years. Mrs A. S. Hayman (vice-president of the Willowby Red Cross Sub-Cen-tre) presented a spray to Mrs Knox and thanked her for her devoted service to the community, interest in the servicemen’s league, and her quiet valuable neighbourliness during the past 30 years. Mrs R. Pearce (vice-president of the Willowby-Eiffelton Women’s Institute) thanked Mrs Knox for her work, particularly as sales’ table supervisor. Mrs Chalmers presented Mr Knox with a button-hole, and on behalf of the district Avomen and organisations thanked Mrs Knox for her work in the commissariat department of social gatherings. \ The programme Avas as folloAvs: Pianoforte solos, Miss Marjery Chapman; vocal duet. Miss Mae Chapman and Miss Elaine Lill; vocal solos, Miss Joy SliaAv; elocutionary items. Miss Kerr; plays by Mr and Mrs S. H. Lill, Mr D. SliaAv, Mr R. J. Chapman, Misses Mae Chapman and Elaine Lill. On rising to reply Mr and Mrs Knox were greeted Avitli musical honours. Supper and a dance followed. Music A\ r ns supplied by Mrs T. O’Grady, Miss M. Knox and Mr I. Read. Mr Shaw Avas master of ceremonies.
