PUBLIC FAREWELL ON SHIP

FORERUNNER TO OTHER CEREMONIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 17. Garlands of flowers were placed by the Mayor (Mr J. A. C. Allum) upon the shoulders of distinguished women travellers during a ceremony on board the liner Rimutaka just before , the ship sailed for London. Farewell music'in honour of all passengers was given from the ship’s . side by the Auckland Watersiders’ Junior Band, and, a group of costumed Maori men and women presented songs and hakas. The ceremony took place on the boat deck in the presence of the commander.
