ACQUISITION URGED (Rec. 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 4. A sub-committee of Socialist members of the House of Commons, in a report to the Government, urge it go into the film industry. They recommend the compulsory acquisition of 500 cinemas, mostly from big circuits, the acquisition of studio space to encourage the production of independent British films and a Govern-ment-owned renting organisation to handle them. The report suggests that 500 cinemas should be*split into two groups to compete with the three major private circuits. Oaumont, Odeon and Associated British Cinemas.
