PINE PLANTATION DESTROYED

FIRE SWEEPS THROUGH MILLING * TIMBER (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 6. Fanned by a strong north wind, fire swept through a pinus insignis plantation on the western boundary of the Seaward Bush scenic reserve this evening. The majority of 6000 trees in the plantation, many of which weye ready for milling, were destroyed. The city fire brigade and volunteers prevented the spread of the flames to 239 acres of native bush. The outbreak was apparently the result of the action of a settler in burning off tussock on property near the reserve. The damage is estimated at several hundred pounds.
